dj vinilkin DJ Vinilkin is one of the most respected hip hop djs in Russia. He really cares for the true soul of rap and hip-hop and that's why he is playing a lot of stuff people never heard of. No chance for the big players, but you will listen crazy scientists like Madlib or some smart Common. For his true love to the music, he traveled throughout the whole Russian empire, mostly for Snickers and Nokia. Playing his creamy sounds, crunchy beats and fine chocolate lyrics. Tasty. s: Vinilkin, for those who don't speak Russian, what about your name. v: Vinilkin is a mix of a typical Russian second name like Pushkin and Vinyl, the material records are made of. s: When did you start to play music and how did you come to hip-hop? v:I formed my first musical group when i was 15 playing the guitar, and paralelly started to listen hip hop like Cypress Hill, Public Enemy and Beastie Boys, actually what was available in Moscow that time. And to play as a DJ I started an '96 which became my profession in 2000. Because djing as a way of making music just interested so much. s: How do you get your records in moscow? v: I have a good dealer there. s: You are a member of the Flammable Beats Crew, what about the others? There is also Chagin, Pirumov and Tactics. All guys cool and very different from each other and that's our strength. And because we are all so different we always have heavy problems, but it's okay. v: Pirumov is a very succesful snowboard photographer and photoeditor at doski mag and Tactics a very heavy biznizman and beatmaker. Do you and Chagin also have any side projects? v:Chagin likes to travel a lot and my intrests are music generally and making beats on MY! MPC. s: The crew regularly played at PROPAGANDA, and because of some strange door politics, you left it. At KULT there are lots of hooligans and futbol fans who, i think, can't appreciate your music and beat up visitors and djs. What's the plan? v: It'is true, but we hope that our next club will be cool. Also started our regular parties in St. Petersburg in the new club F108. So we started to the three city connection Moscow - SPb - Berlin and we hope that it will work out well. s: Did you ever play outside Russia? v: Yes i played a lot like in Austria, France, Egypt, Tunis, Montenegro and Turkey. (should be interesting for the Germans ha ha.) s: How do you see the serious hip hop scene in russia, i mean those people like breakers, writers, rappers and also djs? v: I think russian breakers and wirters are okay, but we have a lot of problems with mcs and djs. Because they are not educated in hop culture, the only listen to wu-tang (It's good music of corse, but there is more than just that) and the djs are very lazy, don't buy any records and don't train much, like me, ha ha ha. s: As far as i know, you are also into producing, tell me more! v: As i told you, i started making music at 15 and then all this electronic devices came into my life. So i realized that i can do alone without the group. Now i am building up my home studio in Moscow and starting making beats there.
